I think it was because I couldn't stop thinking about the book I'm writing.
I couldn't seem to fall back asleep. After an hour of tossing, turning, and fuming, I decided to do as Dale Carnegie once advised.
"If you can't sleep, then get up and do something instead of lying there worrying. It's the worry that gets you, not the lack of sleep."
I suppose I was fretting over my slow progress in getting this book into publishable form. So, I was up, thinking about it, making more notes, and trying to figure out why I'm having such a hard time with this book. I think it's because I've had so many interruptions and distractions since I began the book.
A long-form piece of writing demands consistency because holding the information about plot, chracters, emotional truths, setting, etc. in your mind is required. Every interruption from brief to lengthy means you end up going back to your outline and notes rather than simply sitting down and let the words flow from your fingertips to the keyboard to the screen in front of your face.
I guess that's the way I bring and idea to a book ready to be read. So, I'm still trying to build that consistency of habit so that everything I know about this story is ever present in my mind.
TAKEAWAY TRUTH
At least, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
