Cheryl Bolen: My Favorite Book

Everyone including authors have a favorite book. In fact, authors may have several favorites, kind of a Top 10 Hit List. I asked some of my friends what they're favorite books were. Today, bestselling author Cheryl Bolen answers this question.

A Bit About Cheryl Bolen

Since her first book was published to acclaim in 1998, Cheryl has written more than 30 books, mostly historical romances. Several of her books have won Best Historical awards, and she's a New York Times and USA Today bestseller whose books have been translated into eight languages.

My Favorite Book by Cheryl Bolen

My favorite book has to be Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Doesn't every girl dream of snaring the handsome, rich paragon? But this book offers so much more than a happily-ever-after ending. It's a Cinderella story in that poor Lizzy Bennett has little to recommend her. She's not the prettiest sister. Her family has no money to speak of. Her dim-witted mother embarrasses her at every turn. Her even more dim-witted sister brings shame to the family.

Despite all this, Darcy loves her. The all-powerful Darcy uses his considerable resources--both physical and mental--to spare her family from ostracism with no thought of acknowledging his own good deeds.

The strength of the swoon-worthy hero is matched by the humorous secondary characters, particularly Mr. Collins, who is her father's pompous heir, along with Collins's patroness, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, who's even more pompous than he.

Last year marked the 200th anniversary of the book, and it still regularly appears on bestseller lists.

Thanks, Cheryl. Readers, if you love Regency Romance, be sure and grab Cheryl's books.
