My January Post About 24 for 2024

At last, I'm ready to commit myself to a list of what I want out of 2024.

Yes, I decided to tackle the 24 for 2024 meme that began with the New Year. I may be doing it a little bit different though. I'll make a monthly post about my 24 for 2024 and list only 2 or 3 items that I'm working on.

The reason I'm doing it this way is because I'm really thinking about this year and what I want to accomplish in the framework of a year.

Because of that, I'm not posting my entire list in one fell swoop. I think it would be too overwhelming. So I'll give you dribs and drabs of the 24 items on my list as I begin working on them.

Of course, I recognize I can only get out what I put in so I know I must put in a lot of effort and time. Just as Rome wasn't built in a day—as my mother constantly admonished me when I was young and impatient—my list of 24 tasks, goals, or resolutions (whatever you choose to call them) will take most of the year to accomplish them.

My 24 for 2024

1. Regain my energy and muscle mass by walking and engaging in the weight lifting program I've always used.

Being sick this year was a shock. I lost energy and muscle mass which has affected everything I do. As weather permits, I'm now walking at least a mile five days a week. I returned to the weight-lifting exercises (light weights) that I do six days a week. I was faithful about this form of exercise for many years—just not this past year. I've begun again, but it's been tough being consistent the first 12 days of the new year.

2. Workout in the morning within thirty minutes of waking up.

I listed this separately because I knew it was going to be a challenge. When I got sick in June, my daily schedule disintegrated. I couldn't sleep at night so I was up at all hours which meant when I did fall asleep, I slept late every day. I'm amazed how difficult it's been to change that habit, but I'm working on it.

3. Return to my previous Monday through Friday schedule of going to my office at 8:00 every morning and be writing by 8:15AM.

As you can see the first 3 items on my list involve returning to the good habits I once had.

Yes, I'm doing other things on a daily basis, but I'll tell you more about that another time. For now, I'm mentally, emotionally, and physically focused on the above 3 items. In truth, these 3 items are about 1 very important thing—the way I structure my mornings.

Takeaway Truth

Changing yourself, your life, or the way you do things takes consistent, persistent action. That's why it's impossible to change more than 1 thing at a time.
