4 Brain Health Facts to Know

I'm always interested in learning something that will keep my brain healthy and strong. I want to look good, feel good, and have good cognitive function when I get older. I bet you want that too.

I gleaned some interesting facts from reading several magazines that had piled up at home. I'm happy to share this information with you today.

1. Scientific studies of brain and behavior have revealed some very interesting data that says every person has unique genetic "hard wiring" in the brain which makes the person predisposed to be thrifty or extravagant.

Of course, even if you're genetically hardwired to be a spendthrift, you can change that by behavior modification, education, and attitude adjustment--just as you can change the inevitability of having a heart attack if you have genetic risk factors.

I guess that's where free will comes into play.

2. Yoga. Worth the time and effort? The answer is a resounding yes. In addition to the physical benefits, yoga is great for brain function. It improves memory and focus and also helps the brain process information more effectively.

3. We all know that high blood pressure, if uncontrolled, can kill you. But do you realize that it can harm your brain without actually killing you? Millions are on blood pressure medication. In addition to medication, there's an easy natural thing you can do to lower blood pressure.

Listen to classical music like Mozart for 20 to 30 minutes. This calms you and thus lowers blood pressure when you are upset, stressed, and anxious. So take a music break. You can listen while driving, cooking dinner, or working at your desk.

4. An unexpected way to improve brain health is to tidy up your environment. Is your desk neat and organized or a total paper blizzard complete with empty coffee cups sitting around?

Well, guess what? The smart people who study cognitive function have determined that those who work in noisy or dirty environments are at greater risk for long-term cognitive decline than the neat freaks.

Are you neat or messy? Leave a comment to be entered in the November Giveaway. See top of left sidebar for details.

Btw, if you reply in a language other than English, I'll attempt to use Google Translate to read your response.  If I am unable to do so, then I regretfully recognize that you cannot be entered in the random drawing Giveaway.

Takeaway Truth

Do everything you can to keep your brain healthy. In the long run, that's the most important thing you can do to live happily ever after.
