Pop Culture Quiz, hotshot. Who sang these one-hit wonders? I've been making playlists for my next writing project so that means I've been listening to music. Lots of it.
Some of the catchiest songs are one-hit wonders. You know, songs that exploded onto the Top 40 and became part of the public's cultural history even though many of these groups quietly faded into the woodwork, never equally the one-hit wonder success.
In no particular order, here are some of my favorite one-hit wonders. Can you name the group that sang each song?
1. My Sharona
2. Spirit In The Sky
3. One Toke Over the Line
4. Kung Fu Fighting
5. Tainted Love
6. I'm Too Sexy
7. Come On, Eileen
8. Who Let the Dogs Out
9. Rama Lama Ding Dong
10. Get a Job
11. Sukiyaki (the English language radio stations played this so often when I lived in Japan that I knew the words by heart.)
12. Hippy Hippy Shake
13. Baby the Rain Must Fall
14. In the Year 2525
15. Na Na, Hey Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye
16. One Tin Soldier
17. The Night Chicago Died
18. Breakfast at Tiffany's
19. Mambo No. 5
20. Do They Know It's Christmas
Imagine the Final Jeopardy Music Playing
Those are the songs. What are the answers?
No, no. Don't scroll down yet. Think.
Leave your answers in comments if you wish or post a song challenge of your own for me to answer.
While you think about these songs--which are probably playing in your head right now--I'll mention the book and author spectacular scheduled for tomorrow.

Let's not forget that "One Tin Soldier" was also a one-hit wonder by Coven (the group on the soundtrack of the movie BILLY JACK). Or maybe you can't call it a one-hit wonder because made the charts twice, once in the year the movie came out and then a couple of years later.
ReplyDeleteI watched Billy Jack a while back. Think it was on Amazon Prime. Sadly, it wasn't nearly as captivating as I'd remembered.
