About Tempered Joy: Book 4, Tempered Series
All around rodeo cowboy and heir to the Rockin’ H Ranch, Ace Harris is determined not to fall in love. Lexie Morgan thinks rodeo cowboys have rocks for brains and a death wish for a soul. Can two young people who clash from the onset learn to trust in the healing power of God and find love and happiness amidst tragedy and grief?
When did you write Tempered Joy?
The entire series was written between 1996 and 2000 and the first two books published by Writers Exchange Epublishing Company in 2000 & 2001. However when I signed with ComStar Media in 2005 they contracted all four books and Tempered Joy was released in 2008. The reprints are currently published under my Indy imprint, Temperance Publishing.
What was the spark that gave you the story idea?
Tempered Joy was actually like a surprise pregnancy, LOL! I’m writing along in Tempered Fire when Ace (Craig and Tamera’s son) shows up asking when I’ll write his story. As I mentioned, I had absolutely no idea there would even be a third much less a 4th book! Nor did I realize what the book would entail and that one of my beloved characters would die, until I started writing (one of the disadvantages of being a SOTP writer).
Why do readers buy Tempered Joy?
I’m sure most people initially purchase the book since it is part of the series, however, based on Psalms 126:5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. Filled with moments of poignant sadness interspersed with touching humor, Tempered Joy deals with emotional healing from tragedy and grief.

It's funny how series just kind of present themselves!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. Now if they would just write themselves too so I wouldn't have to put my depleted physical body in a chair in front of the computer, it would make life SO much easier.
DeleteLOL. But SO much less interesting!
DeleteWell I thought I'd replied to your post Liz but guess not... I enjoyed how this book in the series evolved and had fun writing it despite the tragedy...lots of laughter and romance amidst the tears... Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteSounds like a great series, very heart wrenching. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting, Alicia. Have a wonderful weekend.
DeleteThanks for stopping by Alicia!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how our characters "talk" to us? I have one who is particularly impatient and wants me to write her story NOW. LOL Best wishes on this new book.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting, Diane. Yes, those bossy characters can drive us nuts -- always whispering in our air when we're supposed to be giving our attention to another character.
DeleteThanks Diane! Happy Birthday by the way... Yeah, I've had that happen too and sometimes I just go with it and get their story down (at least roughly) so I can finish my current WIP LOL! Good luck with your own writing!

I'm glad you write steamier Christian romance. I'm very involved in our church and don't like that some people feel that being a romance writer is a conflict. God created sex, people, and made it *gasp* enjoyable! He is love. Where's the conflict? It's Man who has made it corrupt. Love the premise behind your book. Sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, but I totally agree with you. If God hadn't wanted us to have sex, he wouldn't have made it so wonderful. I'd be willing to bet that churchgoers don't decry the sex in mysteries, thrillers, etc. It's mostly the romance novel that attracts their finger-pointing.
DeleteCongratulations to Diane Burton .... winner of Tempered Joy!
